Here you’ll find progress on current books, behind-the-scenes insight and story inspiration, as well peeks at my life on rural, (usually) rainy East Hawaii Island.
The Blog Menu Dropdown highlights three categories, Hawaii Life(pretty self-explanatory), Stories I Love (also pretty self-explanatory, but includes books, movies, and TV), and Magpie Moments (bits I snatched from real life and incorporated, magpie-like, into my fiction).

You know when there’s something going on that’s so cool, you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep for thinking about it? That was me this week. Seriously. Nothing to do with Rosh Hashanah (Happy Jewish New Year!) or the first day of autumn, the only holidays that appear on the calendar next to my desk. And I’m a little old and it’s a little early to be excited for Christmas, although I’m prepared to be contradicted on my next trip to Home Depot or Target. (On the early for Christmas part, not Read more…
I’m thrilled to share that Founder, Book Two of the Appalachian Dead Hollow Trilogy is alive—mwah-ha-hah! It is a crime thriller with a touch of the supernatural, so I figured mwah-ha-hah! fits. Or just, yay! Whichever. 😊 You can read a Preview and find purchase links here. Remember, this is a true trilogy, not just a series, so do not read Book Two without first reading Book One, Prodigal. That’s right—only four more days until Founder is released! I think. Am I the only one who’s never sure how to count the number of days until something happens? Do you count the current day? And do you count the anticipated day of the event? If not, that’s a potential two-day error over a four- (or three- to five-) day span… Yeah, I might be getting a little frazzled. This past week involved a lot of last-minute formatting and uploading and re-uploading and looking at my router saying, Really? Is that all you’ve got? (And no, I’m not in data Read more…
Things have been a little crazy-making lately here at the Writer’s Desk. Good crazy-making, but crazy-making nonetheless, causing great difficulties for said desk to fulfill its designated purpose. In other words, there’s not been so much of the story writing. 😛 I’ll share some juicy details about the best of the crazy-making another day, but today I have some news (news that will not be “new” if you’ve subscribed to my Newsletter—hint, hint). First off, the identity of the manuscript that various non-writing tasks have been keeping me from… Founder, Book Two of the Dead Hollow trilogy, is currently with Read more…
I mentioned last week that I’ve got a lot of balls in the air, and I’m tossing one at you today. (Did I lose the metaphor?) This is technically my off week here at the Blog, but I wanted to make sure everyone saw this in case you’re not on my email list (why aren’t you?) and you missed it on Facebook. I’ve teamed up with over 50 amazing mysteries and thriller authors to give away a huge collection of novels, short stories, and more – 100% FREE! And, you’ll also have a chance to win a Kindle Fire or Read more…
