Here you’ll find progress on current books, behind-the-scenes insight and story inspiration, as well peeks at my life on rural, (usually) rainy East Hawaii Island.
The Blog Menu Dropdown highlights three categories, Hawaii Life(pretty self-explanatory), Stories I Love (also pretty self-explanatory, but includes books, movies, and TV), and Magpie Moments (bits I snatched from real life and incorporated, magpie-like, into my fiction).

I hadn’t intended to do a Blog Post today, but honestly this little snippet got unwieldy for Facebook, so I thought I’d paste it here instead… I’ve been using my Kobo Reader to edit a rough draft of the latest Sydney Brennan book (Newsletter folks, watch your Inbox for the cover reveal this weekend!). I love my ereader and it is so easy on my eyes and my brain… yes, there is an impending but… BUT holy frijoles they need to work on the touch technology! (I’m not singling out Kobo–this is true of every ereader I’ve tried.) Highlighting bits Read more…
I am so tired. Which isn’t exactly cause for alarm. It is, after all, Friday. The week—make that the past weeks—have caught up with me. Okay, before you zone out (this is going to be one of those whiny posts, isn’t it?), I have a PAA, Public Author’s Announcement. If you emailed me in the past couple of weeks and you do not get a response this weekend, I probably didn’t receive your email. Sorry. Apparently my webmail took a leave of absence, i.e. broke, while I was traveling. A few emails did get forwarded to another account and I’ll Read more…
I think I mentioned last post that I’d be doing some traveling. I am now in No Internet Land–my cell phone won’t even pick up my email. Well, not now at this precise moment. We’ve made a coffee shop pilgrimage (to another state) for “emergency wifi.” While I’m here, I thought I’d share some pretty pictures. Yesterday, we were fortunate to have a chilly but beautiful day for a train excursion in West Virginia. That’s right–we’re in Dead Hollow land! And I’m taking notes for Book Three of the trilogy. The train traveled through The Trough, a narrow space between Read more…
Yes, the blog post is late today (unless you live in Hawaii like me), but for good reason. Not just because I ran off this morning to get my hair cut—that’s not a good reason for you (although you’d think it was if you had to stare at the random high humidity curl in my bangs every morning). Nope, the good reason it’s late is that instead of staying up last night into the wee hours writing my blog post, I stayed up last night into the wee-ish hours (the hours when you most have to go to the bathroom?) A few nights ago, we were heading to bed when my husband said, “I like your laptop.” Yeah, seemed like a non sequitur to me, too. Then he added, “It’s like you smashed something in there, and all the ideas are squishing out.” Ahh… Not a total non sequitur after all. He’d just evicted the cat from our dog Fritz’s crate (Ninja loves Fritz’s new bed, and the pit bull is too much of a wuss to kick him out), and the crate is directly behind my desk where rests my frilly laptop. I’ve previously confessed my love of/unhealthy addiction Read more…
