Welcome to my blog!

Here you’ll find progress on current books, behind-the-scenes insight and story inspiration, as well peeks at my life on rural, (usually) rainy East Hawaii Island.

The Blog Menu Dropdown highlights three categories, Hawaii Life (pretty self-explanatory), Stories I Love (also pretty self-explanatory, but includes books, movies, and TV), and Magpie Moments (bits I snatched from real life and incorporated, magpie-like, into my fiction).

Magpie Moments: You Haven’t Lived if You Haven’t Tried the Smoky Shenandoah

Happy Friday, y’all! With the weekend bearing down, what better time to share a Magpie Moment? I know it’s been a while, so just a quick reminder that Magpie Moments are bits I snatched from real life and incorporated, magpie-like, into my fiction. And this one is, not surprisingly, food-related. (Yes, my PI Sydney Brennan comes by her food fixation honestly.)  “What do you recommend?” Adam asked. Luther laughed. “Only thing to choose is half or full chicken, and with slaw or without. And it’s not the tomatoey kind of barbecue sauce; it’s the other kind.” Adam wasn’t sure what Read more…

The Joys of Travel (Sarcasm Alert), and Grounding a Story in Both Time and Place

You ever wonder if travel is worth it? We must forget the trauma within a few days, or no one would ever leave the house. I’m still catching up and a little jet-lagged, but we made it back from New Orleans! Honestly, the return trip was okay, but getting to the mainland was fairly horrendous. A red-eye is never pleasant, but it’s even worse when a certain airline (no names, but it’s a synonym for together) squeezes you into teeny tiny seats with no legroom even for the vertically challenged folks like me. Then my husband and I had separate Read more…

Giveaway Winner(ish), and Traveling with Sydney

We have a Dead Hollow Audiobook Series Winner! Sort of. But not quite officially… As of writing this post, I’m still waiting for an email reply confirmation from the lucky reader who won the entire series on audiobook. That means if you entered, check your email! If I don’t get a response by Monday, I’ll choose another random winner. Which bring us back to, check your email. And if you missed the Giveaway, you can find out more about the supernatural thriller audiobook series here. UPDATE: Congratulations to our Winner, Grace H. of Tennessee! That pseudo-resolved, I’ll keep this post Read more…

Days of Listening: A Full Series Audiobook Giveaway for Those Who Like Some Woo-Woo in their Crime Thrillers

I’ve been stalking myself for the past couple of weeks. Well, stalking my books anyway, checking retailers and dashboards every day (maybe a few times a day). And yesterday, finally… IT’S ALIVE!! By “It,” I mean the audiobook version of Heir, Book Three of the Dead Hollow trilogy, which has taken forever (in my best annoyed kid voice) to go live on Audible. That means, as promised last blog post, we’re going to do something fun. But first, a quick intro for those of you who aren’t familiar with Dead Hollow. The crime thriller series with a dash of the supernatural is Read more…

Stories I Love: Another Year, Another Dead Body with the Inimitable Amelia Peabody

I had intended to do something fun this week to celebrate the release of the Heir audiobook—woo hoo! Except Heir isn’t actually showing up on most stores yet, so less woo and more boo. 😢 Retailers are being slow as pahoehoe. (A 5.5 Kilauea-adjacent earthquake woke us a few nights ago, so lava flows are on my mind.) That leaves me scrambling at the last minute for a blog post, which means it’s time for a Story I Love I could write in my (non-earthquake-interrupted) sleep. Another dead body. Every year it is the same. Every year, another dead body…” Read more…
