I am happy to say that my Sydney Brennan novella, Secrets in Stockbridge, is finally available on Amazon. Yay—writer happy dance! I’m hoping that the more works I publish, the easier it gets, but I’m afraid two is too small a sample size to test that theory. Guess I’ll just have to keep at it to find out. It will be available very soon as a paperback as well. (Unfortunately my paperback proof seems to have taken the slow boat to Hawaii, and I’m too paranoid to hit “publish” without holding it in my hands first.)
[UPDATE: It is now available on Kindle AND paperback.]
My intention is to make a series of standalone Sydney Brennan novellas to complement the novels and fill in the time between novel releases. They’ll be standalone in the sense that they feature the same characters, but you won’t need to read the novels to read the novellas, nor will you need to read the novellas in order. I may also indulge in setting-hopping in the novellas. Most of SIS takes place in the fictional town of Stockbridge in upstate New York, not the Florida Panhandle. SIS is probably also a little lighter in tone than Back to Lazarus, but I don’t know if that will be true for future novellas. (Another wait and see …)
Without further ado (i.e. authorial yammering on), allow me to introduce Secrets in Stockbridge:
Private investigator Sydney Brennan has reservations when wealthy businessman Bran Woodford asks her to deliver a Florida background check—in person—to his upstate New York home. A wise woman limits contact with her ex-boyfriend, no matter how big his bank account. But, as usual, when Sydney’s curiosity is piqued, wisdom flies out the window.
Within 24 hours of Sydney’s arrival, there is a murder on the Woodford estate, and Bran quickly becomes the prime suspect. Is the victim’s shady past to blame, or does the motive for murder lie within the estate’s manicured grounds? It’s up to Sydney to find the murderer, before the Secrets in Stockbridge can claim their next victim.
